Expat families in Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, Nizwa and Sur come from many backgrounds: South Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and other Arab countries. Many want their children to read the Quran with correct Tajweed and to memorize, but suitable classes in English may be far away or full. One-to-one online classes bring a certified teacher into your home at a time that fits your week. This guide explains how they work for families in Oman.

Time Difference Between Oman and Cairo

Oman uses the same time all year. Oman is one hour ahead of Cairo in summer and two hours ahead in winter. Classes run 24/7, and your teacher books lessons in Oman time, so you never need to calculate the difference.

Fitting Classes Around the Week

DaySuggested use
Sunday–Thursday afternoonsTwo short lessons after school and a rest (four on the intensive plan)
FridayFamily day and Jumu’ah; many families keep it free
Saturday morningA longer review or memorization lesson
Summer holidayExtra classes, including while travelling

Indo-Pak or Madani Mushaf?

Many families from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh learned to read from the Indo-Pak Mushaf, with its thicker script and different marks, while children at school may see the Madani Mushaf. Teachers at Elbayan Academy can teach from either. If your child wants to move from one to the other, the teacher can guide the change step by step; see switching from Indo-Pak to Madani Mushaf. For memorization, it is best to choose one Mushaf and stay with it.

Common Tajweed Points for South Asian Learners

Children who speak Urdu, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil or Bengali at home often share a few habits that the teacher corrects early:

  • ث, ذ, ز and ظ: often all read as s or z.
  • ح and ه: often read as the same h.
  • ع: often softened or dropped.
  • ق and ك: the deep ق needs practice.
  • Heavy and light letters: keeping heavy letters heavy and light letters light.

A Learning Path

  1. Reading: the Noor Al-Bayan course for beginners.
  2. Tajweed: the recitation and Tajweed course.
  3. Memorization: Quran Hifz classes for kids or online Hifz classes.
  4. Arabic: Arabic for kids or Arabic for adults.

Sisters can choose a female teacher through our women’s program.

Tips for Parents in Oman

  • Keep the same days: routine matters more than the number of classes.
  • Practise 10 minutes a day: reading aloud at home keeps progress steady.
  • Use one Mushaf at home: the same one the teacher uses in class.
  • Read the monthly report: it shows what to review.

Arabic for Expat Children

Arabic is part of the school timetable for many children in Oman, and children from non-Arab families can find it hard. One-to-one Arabic for kids lessons build reading, vocabulary and writing at the child’s level, and the teacher can follow the school book you share. Learning Arabic also helps children understand the surahs they recite.

Starting as a Family

Many families book back-to-back classes for several children with the same teacher, and sometimes a class for a parent too. Each student learns one-to-one at their own level, and brothers and sisters receive a 10% family discount.

A 30-minute one-to-one class costs $5. Plans are $40 a month for 8 classes or $80 for 16, with 20% off annual plans and a 10% family discount. You can pay by PayPal, Visa, Mastercard or bank transfer.
