In Manama, Muharraq, Riffa, Isa Town and across Bahrain, many adults want to read the Quran better: professionals who never had the chance to learn Tajweed, mothers who want to teach their children, and reverts starting from the first letter. Finding a class that fits a working day, or a female teacher for sisters, is not always easy. One-to-one online classes make it simple. This guide is written for women and working adults in Bahrain.

Classes for Sisters with Female Teachers

Female teachers are available at Elbayan Academy, and our sisters course is taught by female teachers only. Sisters can learn at home, at a time that suits family life, with a teacher who understands the needs of women learners. See our women’s program and the sisters memorization course.

Learning Around a Working Day

Classes run 24/7, so adults can choose times that do not clash with work:

TimeWho it suits
Early morning, before workProfessionals who are freshest at the start of the day
Lunch breakA short 30-minute lesson from the office or car park
EveningParents after the children’s routine
Friday or SaturdayA longer weekly review on the weekend

Bahrain uses the same time all year. In summer Cairo and Bahrain have the same time; in winter Cairo is one hour behind. Your teacher books lessons in Bahrain time.

A Learning Path for Adults

  1. Reading from the beginning: the Noor Al-Bayan course, for adults who cannot read Arabic yet or want to correct their basics.
  2. Tajweed: the recitation and Tajweed course, rule by rule with practice.
  3. Surahs for prayer: correcting Al-Fatihah and the surahs you recite in Salah.
  4. Memorization: online Hifz classes at an adult pace.
  5. Understanding: Arabic for adults, to follow the meaning of what you recite.

Common Worries Adults Have

  • “I am too old to start.” Adults learn to read the Quran at every age. Short, regular lessons are the key.
  • “I am embarrassed by my mistakes.” One-to-one lessons are private, and the teacher corrects patiently.
  • “I have no time.” Two 30-minute lessons a week and 10 minutes of daily practice are enough to make steady progress.
  • “I want to teach my children.” Parents who learn correct reading can support their children’s lessons at home.

Classes for the Whole Family

Children can start from 6 years old, and brothers and sisters receive a 10% family discount. Many parents in Bahrain book their own class straight after their child’s. See online Quran classes for kids.

What a Typical Adult Lesson Looks Like

  1. Warm-up (5 minutes): you read a few lines you practised since the last class.
  2. New learning (15 minutes): a new reading step or Tajweed rule, with examples from the Quran.
  3. Practice (5 minutes): you read, the teacher corrects letter by letter.
  4. Homework (5 minutes): the teacher sets a short task for the coming days.

Every month you receive a progress report, and at the end of each stage a certificate of appreciation.

Tips for Busy Adults

  • Book fixed times: treat the class like a work meeting.
  • Use a headset: it helps the teacher hear every letter.
  • Practise 10 minutes a day: after Fajr or before sleep works well for many learners.
  • Recite in prayer: use what you learn in your daily Salah.
