Muslim families in Germany and France often find that local Quran lessons are far away, held in large groups, or taught in a language their children do not speak well. A one-to-one online Quran tutor solves this: a 30-minute class at home, with explanations in English, Arabic and French, at a time that suits the school week. Cairo is only 0 to 1 hour ahead of Berlin and Paris, so classes fall at normal hours for teachers.
The Time Difference
Germany and France use Central European Time. For most of the year Cairo is 1 hour ahead. From late March to late April, when Europe has moved to summer time but Egypt has not yet, both are on the same time. Classes run 24/7.
Fitting Classes Around the School Week
| Country | School-week feature | Class times that often work |
|---|---|---|
| Germany | Many primary schools finish in the early afternoon | 3:00 to 4:30 PM after lunch and homework; weekend mornings |
| France | Many primary schools have no classes on Wednesday afternoon, or on Wednesday | Wednesday morning or afternoon; 5:30 PM on other days; Saturday |
School timetables vary by region and school, so choose times that fit your child’s own week.
Children Who Speak German or French at Home
Classes are taught in English, Arabic and French, but not in German. Most children learn English at school and follow simple explanations, especially from about 9 or 10 years old. For younger beginners, a parent nearby in the first weeks helps. In practice, most of each Quran lesson is the child reading and the teacher correcting, so language matters less as reading improves. Teachers also use short, clear instructions and repetition, which young children pick up quickly.
A Learning Path for European Children
- Letters and reading: the Noor Al-Bayan course, from 6 years old.
- Tajweed: Tajweed for children, step by step.
- Memorization: Quran Hifz classes for kids.
- Arabic: Arabic for kids, so children understand what they recite.
For Adults and Sisters
Adults can start from the letters or continue from their current level in our online Quran classes for adults. Female teachers are available, and the sisters memorization course is taught by female teachers only. See our women’s program. New Muslims can begin with reading Al-Fatihah and the short surahs needed for salah.
Online Tutor and the Local Mosque
Many mosques in Germany and France run weekend Quran classes, sometimes in Arabic or Turkish. They offer community, which is valuable. An online tutor adds one-to-one correction, explanations in English, and flexible times. Some families keep the mosque class on the weekend and add two online classes during the week.
Sample Weeks
- Family in Cologne, child aged 8: Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00 PM, 8 classes a month.
- Family in Lyon, child aged 10: Wednesday at 10:00 AM and Saturday at 10:00 AM, 8 classes a month.
- Teenager in Paris memorizing: Monday to Thursday at 6:30 PM, 16 classes a month.
- Mother in Munich: Tuesday and Friday at 9:30 AM with a female teacher.
School Holidays and Ramadan
German and French school holidays, including autumn, winter, spring and summer breaks, are good times for revision. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around February 8, depending on the moon sighting; with early sunsets in February, classes right after school or on weekend mornings keep evenings free for iftar and Taraweeh. See our Ramadan Quran plan for families.
